How to Teach at Home |
You’ve decided to homeschool and are unsure of where to start. You don’t even know what to ask.
So, let’s get a few common questions out of the way first: Is it legal to homeschool? Yes. You don’t have to ask permission nor be approved to homeschool. You DO need to notify your child’s former school of your choice, and you do need to inform the state in which you reside of your intent to homeschool. Each state has different requirements beyond that. And they probably change over the years, but your local department of eduction will have confusing standards posted for you to bumble your way through! But you can do it - and ask here. We can help point you in the right direction, depending on where you live! For Louisiana - you can register for Home Study or Nonpublic Not Seeking State Approval. Go for the latter unless you have a junior or senior in high school, as it's the least restrictive. The Home Study option is required if you'd like TOPS funding for college. I'll detail all of that in a later post! And, if you're looking for info about some other state - click "state standards" in the category to the right and we may have what you need!

After a few challenging weeks, your child has made the successful jump to being a preschooler. The first few days were shaky, but now, he consistently earns praise for his performance inside and outside the classroom. He has also found the right balance between being independent and being a dependable classmate to his peers. With just a few weeks left to go before his toddlers’ nursery classes end, you are now thinking about the next challenges he is about to face — specifically, his advancement to primary school.

“Math” carries stress and anxiety for many students. In fact, studies show that anxiety and even avoidance around math and related subjects can start for children as young as five years of age, which unfortunately means there is a huge opportunity for this anxiety to grow over the course of development. This is further reinforced by how education and popular culture may lump people into being either “math people” or not, as though there is some intrinsic mathematical ability that you must be born with in order to enjoy long-term STEM success. How can we show students that they can develop the skills they need in order to thrive in math and science?

Wyoming is different than the other states we’ve covered so far. One of the big differences is the fact that they set up the homeschooling process almost like a trial run to see if you have the ability to homeschool. Other than that their laws and regulations pretty much require the same standards as the other four states. Find out how to get started with homeschooling in Wyoming.

With the popularity of homeschooling rising, knowing the facts is more important than ever. Laws and regulations are maintained by each individual state. Wisconsin has a more strict guideline for it’s parent requirements. Other than that, Wisconsin has a very similar format for rules and regulations like the rest of the states we’ve covered so far. If you are considering making the move to homeschool your children in the State of Wisconsin, you’ll need to know the laws in order to be in compliance.

West Virginia’s laws and regulations for homeschooling are very similar to Virginia’s laws. There’s the usual NOI, the parent requirements (not as stringent as Washington), the compulsory age is pretty much the same. The major difference is the standardized testing. West Virginia actually gives parents two options for fulfilling the standardized testing requirement for their child. We’ll cover those options in the standardized testing section of this post. Without further ado let’s jump into the laws and regulations of homeschooling in West Virginia. by Christina Yeager
The homeschooling laws for Washington are a bit more strict. Every state has the same basic set of laws for homeschooling. Ensuring the child’s safety, some sort of parent certification, etc. these are laws that you’ll find in pretty much every state. Washington has these laws only they are a little more enforced and require more effort to pursue homeschooling. Let’s jump right into the laws and regulations for Washington starting with the compulsory school attendance age.

Homeschooling can be intimidating for the first time. There’s a lot of factors to consider. A lot of planning and thought that parents and guardians have to consider. One thing that can help ease that pressure is knowing the laws and regulations for homeschooling in different states. Let’s take a look at some of the laws and regulations for homeschooling Virginia. With lots of exciting travels coming up for our family in the coming months, I was thisclose to making each outing an educational adventure.
And then I realized that’s probably the best way to ruin the fun and make learning a chore instead of organic and amazing. And I also had an uncomfortable realization about all of it too. One that many of you will likely relate to and not want to admit . . .

Homeschooling shouldn’t be considered intimidating. All that’s needed is a bit of information and guidance in the correct process! Each state has a specific set of rules, laws and guidelines for homeschooling. In Vermont, homeschooling is known as a “home-study program” and there are particular rules to follow in order to enroll your child into this program. |
